Lord Mayor of Bradford Supports Investment in Local Business

The Right Worshipful Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councilor Robin Owens, and the Lady Mayoress, Mrs Janet Owens, were among the specially invited guests who gathered to celebrate the official opening of an impressive £2.25 million warehouse extension at George Barker & Company Ltd’s premises in Idle Bradford.

Built by regional contractor Jack Lunn (Construction) Ltd, the 8,000 sq m warehouse extension was formally opened by the Lord Mayor who cut a ceremonial ribbon to mark the occasion. The new building was commissioned by the Epta Group, parent company of George Barker & Company Ltd, the UK’s leading supplier of refrigeration equipment Service and Maintenance within the retail sector. The extension provides much needed additional capacity at the fast growing business and will further enhance the level of service offered to their key customers.

Tony Callaghan, Operations Director at George Barker & Company Limited said: “Sustainability has played a key role in this project, both from an environmental and community-based perspective. The strategy behind this major investment in our facilities was to reduce overall vehicle movements across our site by bringing together operations under one roof. This will reduce our carbon footprint and enhance efficiencies for the business. The extension will also support our ambitious plans for business growth, which creates sustainable employment opportunities within the region and key investment within our local community.”

Stephen Bradbury, Managing Director of Jack Lunn (Construction) Ltd added: “Bradford continues its renaissance as a true business destination, providing excellent opportunities for regional and national organisations to establish themselves within a highly dynamic and cosmopolitan city. Major investment in the city’s infrastructure and the commencement of a number of high profile developments suggests that Bradford will be challenging other major regional conurbations as the business destination of choice.”
