This was an innovative new-build contract to provide state-of-the-art, fit-for-purpose student accommodation for disadvantaged children, many with severe disabilities. This included 16 bedrooms, a communal kitchen/dining room, a communal lounge with terraces, carers’ living accommodation and offices.
Using modern methods of construction, we achieved a faster build, thanks in particular to pre-fabricated, timber-framed construction and timber cladding – which also meant less time on-site. We used insulation material with a global-warming potential of less than five, and ozone-depletion potential of zero. Our early involvement, and the use of value engineering, reduced costs and enabled the client to redeploy those savings for the benefit of all users.
