Jack Lunn (Properties) Ltd secured the PFI contract to acquire and develop land on behalf of North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service for a major new fire and rescue training centre and a fire station in Easingwold and York. Jack Lunn (Construction) Ltd was appointed to carry out the new build works on a design and build basis.
Both projects were owned, operated and managed by Jack Lunn (Properties) Ltd for the benefit of the North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service.
The training centre was designed to meet all of North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service’s training requirements, offering many specialist facilities not widely available elsewhere in the UK. North Yorkshire fire crew trainees 'live and learn' at the centre which is needed for training in dealing with emergency situations.
Features include a realistic ‘hot fire’ facility, so trainee fire crews can learn about using breathing apparatus in heat and smoke. The layout of the land includes a 30-space car park and surfacing for turning fire appliances, while a drill yard was created with hard surfacing for outdoor training.
The brick-and-tile centre features an IT training room, lecture room, laundry, reception, offices and model fire station with pole drop and a 13-metre tower.
At first-floor level there are 21 single bedrooms, shower & toilet facilities for able bodied and disabled, a recreation area, dining area and kitchens.
There is also a gymnasium as well as PPE, breathing apparatus and operational equipment storage areas and fire kit drying facilities.
The centre is now classed by the local authority as an example of excellence for the Yorkshire region; as a result of its success, North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service trains recruits from other fire services, including Selby and Humberside.
